Why choose the combined treatment?
Quite simply - It enhances the effect of acupuncture or sound as a stand-alone therapy. Both acupuncture and sound possess the ability to take one into the alpha-theta border - the state between quiet wakefulness and light sleep where it is known that healing takes place, however, sound tends to achieve this quicker, and arguably more effectively. People just seem to sink deeper into the sub-conscious.
The two modalities blend extremely well, as any instrument that can be played on the body can be used on acupuncture points, so I use my extensive understanding of Chinese medicine to inform how I apply sound to the body.
However, whereas there is a plethora of clinical trials and solid research supporting the efficacy of acupuncture and some supporting sound therapy, there just isn’t any for the combination. Therefore, it is an incredibly exciting area to be working in - using two ancient methods of healing, that initiated many thousands of years ago, to create a new way of keying the body back into is healing potential. The results I am seeing in my private clinic, and from the handful of practitioners that are treading a similar path, are more than sufficient to encourage me to keep pushing these new boundaries of sound and acupuncture combined. Many of my patients absolutely love the combination and report a much deeper feeling of well-being, health and balance straight after the session and in ensuing hours and days.
What happens in a combined session:
I conduct a detailed case history as I do with either acupuncture or sound alone, including tongue and pulse readings which then inform what points and instruments I use. I tend to insert most needles first and then work with sound, either on the body or around the body.
